Teaching mission at the Turkish-German University continues

On October 30 and 31, the Turkish-German University (TDU) in Istanbul not only celebrated its 10th anniversary, but also the opening of its modernly designed central library. Representing Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS), Professor Iris Groß and research associate Andrea Schwandt took part in the celebrations, which were linked to a two-day interdisciplinary conference.

During their stay, they also took on the fulfillment of their teaching assignment in the form of a so-called "flying faculty assignment." Their teaching assignment enables the two lecturers to teach both face-to-face in block classes and regularly on a weekly basis digitally from their desks. The language of instruction is German, as the declared goal is to build a bridge between the two cultures and to see the students as intercultural mediators.

The studies at TDU are strongly focused on practical relevance and the acquisition of competencies, so that the graduates are in great demand among employers - not only, but especially among German companies operating in Turkey. Some graduates also decide to study for a master's degree in Germany, which additionally promotes international cooperation and knowledge transfer between Germany and Turkey.

The H-BRS is a long-standing member of the TDU consortium and Iris Groß was already actively involved in the conception of the mechatronics course. Currently, she teaches the subject of machine dynamics as part of her teaching assignment at TDU, while Andrea Schwandt contributes her expertise in FPGA programming. Iris Groß and Andrea Schwandt experience the students as very open-minded, interested and committed, and also use the exchange on site to explore further cooperation opportunities for the DEC department.
