Department of Computer Science
Professor Kerstin Uhde retires

The high-frequency engineer had held the professorship for "Computer Science, in particular High Performance Networks and Mobile Communications" at the university since 1 August 1998.
After graduating from high school in tranquil Wolfenbüttel, Uhde went on to study at the Technical University of Braunschweig, where she was very successful in electrical engineering, specialising in high-frequency engineering - and did so well that a doctorate soon followed at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg.
After that, Uhde worked for various Hamburg companies, for example at the Philips Components Application Lab, the Microelectronics Application Centre and at Hansenet. During this time, however, it also became clear that research really took a liking to her and Uhde became involved in European research projects as part of the RACE (Research in Advanced Communications in Europe) research programme.
From UMTS to LTE to 5G
In her first time at H-BRS, the young professor was actively involved in setting up the department and designing the curriculum. After the birth of her daughter, a phase of part-time work followed and her focus shifted somewhat towards teaching.
The passionate university lecturer enjoys working personally and directly with students. She designs and delivers lectures on topics including data transmission and written reports, networks, wireless technologies such as WLAN and structures and processes in wide area networks. The content is always exciting. Uhde follows current developments in the field of mobile communications from UMTS and LTE to 5G and 6G, for example, or in the field of network technologies on approaches such as "Software Defined Networking".
"I have always appreciated and loved the pleasant and free atmosphere at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, as a kind of vision that learning and life can be merged. I am very grateful for the wonderful time I was able to spend in the service of the university," says Uhde.
