b-it-bots successful at HEART-MET competition in Nottingham
As part of the METRICS research project, the b-it-bots team from Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences successfully participated in the HEART-MET competition at the Cobot Maker Space at the University of Nottingham.
The international competition was organised as part of the METRICS project (H-BRS) and took place in the Cobot Maker Space at the University of Nottingham. The aim of the competition was to evaluate assistive robots that can be used to support people in a home or care setting. Perceptual tasks were tested, as well as tasks such as fetching items for a person.
On the part of the university, the b-it-bots team participated with Zain Ul Haq (team leader), Kevin Patel, Bharath Adinarayan, Ananya Verma and Ekansh Sharma. THey were supported by research assistant Santosh Thoduka.
The international challengers
- Robotarians (Heriot-Watt University and University of Edinburgh).
- RoboNotts (University of Nottingham)
- UNIFI (University of Florence)
The following tasks had to be mastered
- Object recognition
- Recognition of persons
- Gesture recognition (waving, pointing, thumbs up, etc.)
- Activity recognition (reading a book, drinking water, wiping the table, etc.)
- Assessing activity state(here the robot has to recognise the activity and also talk to the person to ask them what they are doing).
The b-it-bots team crossed the finish line as winners in three of the five tasks. A great success!
