On 21 and 22 March 2019, doctoral students at H-BRS focused on continuing education and networking. The two-day PhD Day at the Hennef site featured a keynote speech by Prof. Dr Dirk Lanzerath and several interdisciplinary qualification modules. The programme focused on the topics of communication and ethics in science. The networking of PhD students during the breaks and in the evening was also valuable for mutual, interdisciplinary exchange.
The Graduate Institute would like to thank all participants and especially the speakers:
- Prof. Dr Dirk Lanzerath (Centre for Ethics and Responsibility at H-BRS): Science and changing values: are humans allowed to cross boundaries just because they can?
- Prof Dr Hektor Haarkötter (Department of Social Policy and Social Security Studies): Being understood as a scientist: The method of scientific storytelling.
- Dr Karl Kirschner (Department of Computer Science): Performing a peer-review and how to write better manuscripts.
- Heike Grimus (Coach): Finally a manager. Typical problems of young managers.
- Martin Enßlen (Library): Self-marketing in Research Networks like ResearchGate or Academia" and "Where(not) to publish? How to identify dubious publishers.
The biannual PhD plenary session was also embedded in the event. Dr Dominik Wilde shared his experiences from a successfully completed PhD. Following the PhD Day, the majority of participants expressed the wish to repeat such a format in 2020.
