There is a new edition of one of our most requested workshops: English Academic Writing Day with our experienced lecturer Lesley-Anne Weiling.

Please note: Taking part in this module is the prerequisite for booking individual proofreading sessions that we offer e.g. for checking papers prior to publication.

About this course

Writing is an essential skill for researchers regardless of discipline. This one-day workshop is packed with tips and strategies designed to streamline the writing process, making it not only more efficient but also more enjoyable. We dive into the art of writing, focussing on mastering techniques to effectively communicate your ideas and findings to your readers. 

 

This course is lively with lots of discussion, group work, individual and pair exercises. In addition, attending this course means you can have access to the proofreading services offered by the graduate institute’s writing coach. 

 

Content

The workshop will cover the following topics:

·      Navigating the Writing Process

·      The Art of Flow: Crafting Text that Flows Smoothly

·      Mastering Clarity: Five Strategies to Refine Your Text

·      Writing from the Reader's Perspective and Utilising the Power of Repetition

·      Introducing a Narrative Structure to an Abstract or Introduction in a Paper

·      Utilising Sentence Structure to Strengthen Your Argument

·      Common Mistakes and How to Correct Them

About Lesley-Anne Weiling

Our lecturer Lesley-Anne Weiling from Northern Ireland is an experienced writing developer and trainer in academic writing and presentation skills. She founded Write English in 2013 with her colleague Anne Wegner to develop writing interventions and editing services to support graduate students and early career researchers.
During this time, she collaborated with faculty from leading universities and research institutes such as Hamburg, Berlin and Bonn as well as several member institutions of PK NRW. her ai, is to integrate writing development initiatives such as workshops, writing retreats and writing groups into graduate school training programmes.
