International Office
Application Process for Studying at our Partner Universities
Application Deadlines
01.09. for a semester abroad in Summer Semester
The application portal will be opened 4-6 weeks before the application deadline.
Allocation of Study Places
- The number of study places is limited in some cases. It is possible to nominate a second partner university as an alternative.
- Available study places at partner universities are allocated primarily in the winter semester; unused places are allocated in the summer semester. If you are planning to start your studies in the summer semester, please note and check the semester times at the respective partner university, as these are sometimes incompatible with the semester times at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, as well as the possibly limited range of courses offered at the partner university in the summer semester.
- The International Office will usually inform you by e-mail in February or March (for the winter semester) or in October or November (for the summer semester) whether you have been offered a place and how to apply to the partner university.
Language skills
The requirements for language skills vary depending on the partner university and are documented in the cooperation agreement. If the partner university does not set its own requirements for students, the rules set by the respective department regarding proof of sufficient language skills apply.
Whether and which language certificate is required for the foreign partner universities can be obtained from the International Office or from the contact person for international affairs in the department.
Application documents
As part of the online application, you will be asked to upload the following English-language documents
Data Protection Consent Form
After registering in the application portal, you can download the information on data protection. Enter your name and the partner university under “Declaration of consent” and sign at the bottom of the page before uploading the document back to the portal.
Curriculum Vitae
Your CV should be one to two pages long. You can choose your own format or use the European Union’s Europass CV template.
Study plan and motivation for studying abroad
Write a cohesive text of one to one and a half pages in which you briefly describe your motivation for choosing the partner university (first choice). Explain how the planned stay abroad fits into your course of study and what skills you will acquire as a result, also with regard to your future career plans. Also, include a list of the courses you would like to take at the partner university (title, credits). Please use the course overviews from previous semesters for this. If you have any questions about course selection and recognition options, please contact the departmental coordinators for international affairs. Please note that this is only a preliminary list, as the course offerings may change annually and the final coordination of course selection with the department and partner university will only take place shortly before the semester abroad.
