PASS - Partnership for Applied Sciences

Within the framework of the NRW-Ghana Partnership and the funding program "NRW Partnerships for the Promotion of Technical Universities in Ghana", the Ministry of Innovation, Economy and Research (MIWF) has been funding the university partnership project "Partnership for Applied Sciences - PASS" between the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (consortium leader), the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, the International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef and the two Ghanaian universities Kumasi Technical University and Cape Coast Technical University through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) since 2017. The project has a duration of four years.

Objectiv of project:

The aim of the project is to strengthen both the practical orientation of teaching and research at the Ghanaian partner universities and management in order to increase the success of students and graduates on the labor market and to create new employment opportunities. The project will also initiate international, application-oriented research and expand and strengthen the regional and international network of representatives from academia, the private sector and the public sector.

Implementation:

The professional exchange is implemented in the framework of workshops in Germany and Ghana. These include workshops on the integration of practical projects into teaching for all subject groups, as well as curriculum development for tourism management and renewable energies/sustainable engineering. Another component is the development and expansion of entrepreneurship expertise at the Ghanaian Technical Universities. The project is completed by two test cases: The technical content will be translated into concrete concepts. In Cape Coast, a concept for an Eco-Guesthouse will be developed during the project period. On the one hand, the Eco-Guesthouse will serve as a training space for tourism students and, on the other hand, it will offer projects in sustainable engineering. In Kumasi, a concept for a Green Campus is being developed, which will introduce students to environmentally friendly management and also offer opportunities for practical projects in renewable energies.
