A last lecture on smart home security by Dr Shih
The exercises used smart home as an example Internet of Things application scenario with the MQTT messaging protocol and low-cost Wi-Fi microchips with full TCP/IP stack and microcontroller capability like ESP8266 or ESP32. The presentation worked through the steps of meeting security requirements for communication between the components in the scenario.
About Dr Chia-Yen Shih
Hailing from Hsinchu in Taiwan, Shih went to the US after graduating and obtained her PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the University of California, Irvine in 2008. She then moved on to Germany to join a group as a postdoc at the University of Bonn and later at the University of Duisburg-Essen, working as a senior researcher for teaching and on European projects. Her main research interests are smart sensing and communication for the Internet of Things (IoT).
Dr Chia-Yen Shih joined H-BRS in spring 2017, working with Professor Karl Jonas on an IT security project. Together they are currently developing a seminar on IoT security. Sadly her time at H-BRS is coming to an end and in April she will be off to new shores. We at H-BRS wish the industrious, creative and friendly scientist all the best, wherever she may be.
