b-it bots receive award at European Robotics Forum
In the 2017/18 season, a new concept for robot competitions was initiated, the European Robotics league (ERL). The ERL is composed of multiple local tournaments, held in different research labs across Europe, with certified test beds, and a few competitions as part of major tournaments, such as RoboCup. Teams participate in a minimum of 2 tournaments (local and/or major) per year and get scores based on their performances.
The H-BRS team b-it bots took part in the ERL industry league and even hosted one of the local tournaments in autumn 2017. Now the group of autonomous systems students were honored at the European Robotics Forum (ERF) in Tampere, Finland for best results in the functional benchmark "Manipulation". In this category, the robots' performance in picking objects from a standardized parcours is compared. Prof. Kraetzschmar attended the event and received the award at the gala dinner on behalf of the team. Over 900 roboticists had met at Europes largest robotics networking event, where Kraetzschmar also hosted two workshops, one on Software Engineering Issues in Cognitive Robotics and the other on Robot Platforms for Researchers and Entrepreneurs.
