From May 5th to May 7th the Messe Magdeburg had once again turned into a huge arena for state-of-the art robotics. 40 teams from 13 countries competed with their robots designed for soccer, service, rescue or industrial use.

Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg's team b-it bots took part in the @work league, where industrial tasks have to be accomplished as well as in the @home competition which focuses on tasks in a domestic context.

The @work team competed with teams from Germany, Italy, the UK and the Netherlands and came in second. For the first two days of the competition, the team had even been on top of the league table. However, in the final on Sunday some problems occurred so that the robot did not take up an ideal position and missed some objects that should have been picked up from a rotating platform. The team can be proud of their trophy, especially since they have managed to secure their place on the podium on national as well as international level for many years in a row! This summer, the @work team will take part in the RoboCup world cup in Japan, so let's keep our fingers crossed!

Unfortunately, domestic service robot Jenny got up on the wrong side of the bed: One of the wheels did not respond to commands anymore so that navigation was not possible and the team had to resign. Nevertheless, the @home team worked hard on the problem and made significant progress. Since Jenny is not going to Japan this summer (due to overseas transportation being costly and difficult to organize) the b-it bots will now have plenty of time for adjustments.

If you would like to join the b-it bots or get to know our teams, please contact Argentina, Santosh or Iman (see contact details on the right). We are always happy to welcome new team members.
