1. OSSCOM Conference in Jordan
OSSCOM is short for Open Source Software Communities. The projects' kick-off meeting took place in 2014 at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University. Its major aim is to improve the usage of Open Source Software in information- and telecommunicion technologies (ICT) in higher education and economy of Jordan and Lebanon.
Around 150 participants from 20 countries attended the opening ceremony of the 1st International Conference on Open Source Software Computing (OSSCOM 2015) held on 10 September 2015, at the campus of our partner university GJU (German Jordanian University) in Amman. Delegations from Jordanian, Lebanese, German, British and Spanish universities participated in the event.
H-BRS professor Rainer Herpers opened the event under the patronage of Prince Al Hassan bin Talal with his co-chair and dean Prof. Dr. Salem Al-Agtash and princess Sumaya. All partners acknowledged the significant progress towards developing Open Source Software and agreed that it is important for OSSCOM comunities in Jordan and Lebanon to make use of its current potential in strengthening OSS and make it available for use on a larger scale as well as developing customized Arabic versions of OSS.
The four-day conference included sessions with a professional focus which were sponsored by EU(TEMPUS) and sessions with a scientific focussupported by IEEE.
The second OSSCOM Conference in September 2016 in Lebanon is already in preparation.
