On Monday, 8 April 2013, the IP SaSeRoS (Safe and Secure Robots based on Open Source Software) started at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Espoo, Finnland. The programme is funded by the European Commission. About 70 participants work and learn together in international and interdisciplinary teams. The programme ends on 19 April with a competition in which the teams present their findings.

The project is coordinated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Norbert Jung from the BRSU Department of Computer Science. Besides him and his colleague Prof. Dr. Thomas Breuer, Professors Iris Groß, Irene Rothe and Marco Winzker from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Journalism (EMT) attend the programme.

Students from five European universities work together on SaSeRoS, among them eleven students from the Department EMT and nine from our own Department of Computer Science. They work on increasing a robot's safety and security, based on open source software. Participants will analyse hardware and software errors and vulnerabilities in software security. They also scrutinise the hardware: mechatronics, electronics and processing units.
