Saif Shehata Wins German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Award

A few weeks ago, Saif El-Din Shehata completed his degree course at the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences as a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology. Upon our University's suggestion, the 23-year-old graduate was awarded the DAAD prize during the central graduation ceremony on Saturday, 23 October. Prof. Dr Wiltrud Terlau, Vice-President for Internationalisation and International Cooperation, presented the award. The prize is endowed with € 1,000.

Saif El-Din Shehata's thanks not only went to his parents and the large number of his supporters from the University, but above all, to his wife Sherin Saad, who was also present at the ceremony.

Saif El-Din Shehata took up a Bachelor's degree course in Pharmacy and Biotechnology at the German University of Cairo. During that period, he met the woman who is now his wife. In 2007, he changed to the Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, where he enrolled for the degree course in "Applied Biology" so as to complete his studies on our Rheinbach campus - with the exceptional overall grade of 1.2. Over and above that, he acquired an additional academic degree during his studies abroad at one of our partner universities, Dundee University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Genetics. During his studies at Rheinbach, Shehata also supported his fellow students with their workload in his capacity as a tutor; furthermore, he worked as an assistant in the laboratory. At the Universities of Cairo and Dundee, he also helped other students alongside his studies.
