Structure Master Computer Science

The regular length of studies in the Master's in Computer Science Programme is four semesters (if a large number of preparatory courses is necessary, five semesters). This time is used for course attendance, advanced studies either individually or in small groups, and at least one research-type project. The programme is concluded with a six month master's thesis in which a research-type topic has to be dealt with using scientific methods. The thesis begins immediately after the conclusion of the third semester.

The courses and projects are sometimes interdisciplinary with other departments of the university or with companies and institutions outside of the university. See an overview of the modules.

The Bonn-Rhine-Sieg science region offers an excellent framework for cooperations, especially for the practical phases and theses thanks to the universities, scientific institutions, and innovative companies located in the region.

Contact and cooperation programs with foreign universities exist; a stay abroad is supported by the department.

The modular structure of the studies and the valuation of the modules and courses according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) makes international student exchanges easier. The Master's Degree Programme in Computer Science comprises 30 ECTS points per semester and totals 120 ECTS points including master's thesis.

Courses and examinations will mostly be held in German, thus German language skills are required. Occasionally, courses can be held in English. Additionally, some of the study material plus most scientific texts will be in English, thus English language skills will be required, too.

The examinations will take place during studies at the end of the semester after the courses are completed.
