A 2-hour workshop to help PhD supervisors support their students in writing English academic papers. The workshop will look mainly at the following questions:

• What factors make an English academic text good?
• What are the most important aspects to consider when assessing student draft papers?

How can message clarity be improved?

The aim of the workshop is to improve the participant’s ability to:

• assess students’ draft papers
• identify possible functional or logical problems in academic texts
• support PhD students when they are writing English academic texts.

Following the workshop the participants will have

• a better understanding of what constitutes a good English academic text
• more confidence in their ability to help their PhD students deal with weaknesses in their academic texts
• a checklist related to improving the clarity and functional aspects of English papers.

Attendance at this workshop is not related to a participant’s English language skills. The workshop focuses on papers in general and improving the clarity of a paper.
