Focus of training
- Procuring, recording, indexing and providing media, information and data
- Navigating and using subject-specific systems, catalogues and databases
- Using a variety of information and communication systems
- Advising patrons on library services and offerings
- Conducting research in data networks and databases
- Teaching information and media literacy
- Assisting with readings and other events
Requirements
- Good school-leaving certificate (Mittlerer Schulabschluss), vocational baccalaureate (Fachabitur) or A-Levels/baccalaureate (Abitur)
- Good marks in German and English, as well as good general knowledge
- Customer and service orientation
- Diligence, confidence and power of concentration
Location and duration of training
The training is a so-called ‘dual training’, devised by the Disctrict Government of Cologne and the Cologne-based Joseph-Dumont-Berufskolleg. One part of your training will take place on location in the H-BRS library (Sankt Augustin or Rheinbach), the other at the vocational school in Cologne.
The training will take three years, but may be shortened under certain circumstances. Examinations will be taken with the Cologne District Government. Pay is regulated by collective agreements for public services (TVöD).
