All about borrowing and registering

Please bring your Student ID / University ID / library card when visiting the library

You can check out and return items yourself at our DIY units.
For borrowing you need a 4-digit PIN, which you can create yourself in Bib-Discover. Please log in to Bib-Discover, open your "library card" and assign your PIN.
Contact the library team at the service desk if you have any questions - we are happy to help you!

After borrowing or returning, you will receive a receipt for each transaction by e-mail. You can get an additional receipts on paper with the corresponding button.

Scientific journals and newspapers are available in the reading area and are not available for loan.
Popular magazines (e.g. Scientific American) are available for loan.

The use of the library is free of charge for members of H-BRS - with the exception of a few services.

External customers pay an annual fee of 10 euros (exception: students at state universities in NRW).

Fees are due if you exceed the loan period:

• up to 10 calendar days per item: 2 euros
• up to 20 calendar days per item: 5 euros
• up to 30 calendar days per item: 10 euros
• over 30 calendar days per item: 20 Euro

Other fee-based services:

• Inter-library loan orders (1,50 Euro per order)
• Issue of a duplicate user card: 10 Euro
• Administrative expenses due to replacement (loss, damage to a medium): 25 Euros
• Provision of written bibliographical or related information - 45 Euros for each working hour spent (minimum fee 15 Euros)

It is possible to borrow books from other libraries via inter-library loan.

Loan periods:

General library collections (books):

• 28 days for students and members of the public
• renewal two times possible
• 168 days for H-BRS staff

Collection Rhein-Sieg district (recognizable by district sticker on the back of the book)

• 28 days for all

Journals:

• 7 days

Interlibrary loans: special loan period (see receipt).
Technical items, e.g. powerbanks, headphones, charging cables can only be borrowed for the current day.

You can renew the loan periods of the books or media you have borrowed  from 10 days before the loan period ends by yourself in Bib-Discover.

To get books from the other branch, you can order them yourself in Bib-Discover. This service is free.
In Bib-Discover you can see directly in which branch a book is available.
After logging in (library number and MIA password), you see the availability and can set a request. The book will be sent to the desired pick-up location.
You will receive an e-mail as soon as the book is ready for you.

• Students of H-BRS are already registered in the library with their enrollment.
   
• Staff of H-BRS: Please activate your data for library use in the MIA portal.
  After activation, your staff ID card is automatically also a library card.

• Lecturers:
  Please use the online registration via MIA (in the library or from outside). In addition, the library needs proof that you are employed at H-BRS. You will receive their library card in the library.

• Members of the public
  Please use the online registration via MIA (in the library or from outside). After registering via the MIA portal, please come to the library during service hours with professional staff to pick up your library card.
  Adults:  please bring your ID or passport with registration certificate (not older than one year!) to the registration.
  Minors - minimum age 14 years - must bring their identity card or passport with registration certificate and a parent or guardian who will sign a declaration of consent.

For external customers, the library charges an annual fee of 10 euros. (Students from other state universities in NRW are exempt from this annual fee).

You can place a reservation on a borrowed book in Bib-Discover. This service is free.
After logging in in Bib-Discover (library number and MIA password), you see the availability and can set a request. The book will be sent to the desired pick-up location after being returned.
You will receive an e-mail as soon as the book is ready for you.

Students of H-BRS who are working on their thesis can apply for a special loan period for the required media, which is valid until the thesis is submitted (PDF form).
