Rock stars wanted: Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg hosts virtual stage at Gamescom

There are a good quarter of a million moves in tic-tac-toe, the popular strategy game for two players. Reachy knows them all. The robot is one of the eye-catchers at the stand of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg at Gamescom. From Wednesday, 23 August, to Sunday, 27 August, visitors to the fair are invited to compete against the very deliberate robot.

H-BRS will present current projects from the Department of Computer Science and the Institute for Visual Computing & Games Technology at its stand. Artificial intelligence and autonomous systems are key research areas at the University of Applied Sciences. Game development and the visual representation of computer-created worlds also play an important role.

The university, with campuses in Sankt Augustin, Rheinbach and Hennef, also has the matching Master's degree programmes in its portfolio. At Gamescom, teachers and students from all departments will provide first-hand information about studying at the H-BRS.

The virtual drumset promises an audiovisual experience of a special kind: visitors to the fair can sit down at a drum kit and, with the help of virtual reality glasses, be transported to the stage of a concert hall. The - virtual - audience reacts with increasable enthusiasm to the playful engagement at the drumsticks. The innovative concept of linking a virtual environment with guided drumming was developed by the Department of Computer Science together with a Cologne drum school.
