Training as a chemical laboratory technician

Since August 2006, Rheinbach has not only been training students at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, but also apprentices. One of the two apprenticeships offered at the Rheinbach campus in the STEM field is training as a chemical laboratory technician.

Training focus 

  • Teaching chemical expertise for chemical and analytical work in the various laboratories at the university
  • Preparative chemistry
  • Carrying out instrumental-analytical work
  • Imparting knowledge in chemical, physical and analytical laboratories
  • Preparation, implementation and evaluation of practical experiments, analyses and measurements

Training requirements

  • Very good to good secondary school leaving certificate, vocational baccalaureate or Abitur
  • Good grades in math, German and English as well as a good general education
  • Strong interest in and above-average understanding of scientific processes and interrelationships
  • Good powers of concentration and observation
  • Team player and sociable

Place and duration of vocational training

The apprenticeship is a so-called dual apprenticeship in cooperation with the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Goldenberg Europakolleg.

The in-company part of the training takes place at the Rheinbach campus, the school-based part at the vocational college in Wesseling.

The apprenticeship lasts three and a half years with the option of shortening it to three years. The examinations are taken at the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Payment is in accordance with the collective wage agreement (public service, TV-L West, trainees).

Job advertisement and application

One or two training places are filled each year. The vacancies are advertised at the beginning of the year on the website of Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, on the usual web portals and in the local press.

Please note, however, that applications are only accepted via our online portal (“B-ITE”). Therefore, please look out for a corresponding advertisement and then upload your complete application via the portal by the deadline. A complete application should include the following:

  • An error-free cover letter addressed to us in which you briefly introduce yourself and explain your reasons for training with us
  • A complete curriculum vitae with all details of previous training and activities including internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work, etc.
  • School leaving certificate or the last two interim school reports
  • Possible certificates and/or references from internships, part-time jobs or voluntary work
  • Certificates for workshops, language courses, etc.
