MSc Social Protection students visit Brussels

Saturday 23 November 2024

On 18 October 2024, first semester students of the MSc Social Protection visited the European Union (EU) in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Accompanied by departmental staff and participants from the Third International Alumni Seminar, they engaged in insightful discussions with key stakeholders from various European Union institutions, gaining valuable insights into the EU's role in the global landscape.

The visit featured presentations from representatives  including the International Trade Union Confederation - ITUC, the German Social Insurance European Representation, and EU Directorates-General focused on employment, social affairs, and international partnerships. A highlight was an interactive presentation by Beatrice di Padua from the ITUC, who shared the organization's global advocacy efforts for social protection measures. Stephanie Kohl from the German Social Insurance European Representation provided insights into the representation of German social insurance at the EU level in Brussels.

The day was incredibly enriching for both students and staff, providing new perspectives on EU policies and social protection efforts. The group also had the chance to explore Brussels' historic Old Town (La Vieille Ville), adding a cultural element to their experience.

We look forward to providing more high-quality, networking, and learning opportunities, enabling our students to engage with international experts and deepen their understanding of global social protection and international engagement.
