Dr. Alexander Glassmann (wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter der H-BRS):

  • Protein Nanoparticle based Drug Delivery Platform for Highly Specific and Protected Transport of Sensitive Drugs into Target Cells

Engineered Protein Nanoparticle (EPN) is an innovative, proprietary drug delivery platform based on optimized, biocompatible virus capsid protein-nanoparticles. EPN provide a completely new, ‘First-in-Class’ opportunity to use RNA/DNA based therapeutics for treatment of a wide range of serious diseases.

The engineered protein nanoparticle based on the capsid proteins of the polyomaviruses. These capsid proteins form virus-like nanoparticles which build a shell structure with a luminal part and a particle surface. Both compartments are engineered in two directions: the luminal part is adapted to the biochemical behaviours of the drug and the particle surface are decorated with new entities which leads to a target specific delivery into the cells of the diseased tissue or organ to deliver the drug with an increased efficacy. The EPN are especially developed to the effective transport of the sensitive nucleic acid based drugs like small interfering RNAs (siRNA) or messenger RNA (mRNA).
